Ryan, Ryan & Landa attorney Michael Viglione recently obtained a $300,000.00 personal injury award for a Lake County pedestrian that was struck by an automobile.  The award, which was reduced to $225,000.00 based upon the pedestrian's comparative fault in causing the incident, was made by a three person Underinsured Motorist arbitration panel.

The pedestrian suffered injuries to the left side of his body, including his shoulder, knee, and back/neck.

I have seen ads for multiple personal injury lawyers on television. How does your firm differ and why should I select you to handle my Chicago, Waukegan, or Lake County injury case?

When we say we are a family firm, it means more to us than just that we are family owned and operated.

It means that you are treated like family when we handle your injury case.  This involves quickly returning phone calls, providing a clear explanation as to the status of your case and strategy for resolving it, and consistently litigating your case and advising you on it in a way that is in your best interest.

It also means that we care about your personal well-being (in addition to obtaining you monetary compensation).

I was just involved in an auto accident, what can I do right now to protect my rights?

(1) Turn your phone off:  Ok, you don't literally need to switch your phone off, but immediately stop taking calls from any numbers you don't recognize.  Insurance companies will immediately begin calling you in an effort to obtain a recorded statement concerning your collision, have you sign medical authorization forms, and ask you for a whole host of information.  Understand, these companies do not want to help you!  Their motivation is to limit your recovery in any way possible.  Do not take their calls.  It will not help your case.

Uninsured (UM) / Underinsured (UIM) Coverage Explained

My insurance agent says that I can lower my auto policy premiums by excluding and/or taking low level UM/UIM coverage, should I do it?

Answer:  No!  Uninsured motorist coverage operates as protection should you or a loved one get seriously injured by a driver who has no insurance, a drunk driver that flees an accident scene and cannot be identified, a driver whose insurer pulls coverage for the loss, etc.

It is of great importance that you carry as much UM coverage as you can afford to protect you and your family in the event that a motor vehicle accident, trucking collision, motorcycle collision, or pedestrian accident occurs, and the at-fault driver simply does not have insurance coverage.

UM coverage operates as a source of recovery for past and future medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, disability, and disfigurement.  UM compensation can be obtained through filing a claim against your own insurer and demanding formal arbitration.  The insurer must be notified and a claim must be filed (both within time periods dictated by your insurance policy) in order to obtain benefits.

Do you or a loved one suffer from chronic neck and/or back pain due to a motor vehicle or trucking accident? If so, contact the spine injury attorneys at Ryan, Ryan & Landa to discuss your case today.

Motor vehicle and trucking accidents involve tens of thousands of pounds of force being displaced onto the human body.  These forces can wreak havoc upon the spinal cord and its surrounding structures.  Neck and back injuries sustained in Cook and Lake County accidents may involve fractured vertebrae, herniated discs, loss of the spine's natural curvature, and permanent pain.

These conditions can lead to costly medical bills for diagnostic imaging, pain relief injections, surgeries, and even implanting of pain pumps.

How do I know if a loved one has suffered a catastrophic injury and needs a Lake County injury attorney?

Catastrophic injuries are all too often the by-product of motor vehicle collisions, trucking negligence, and medical malpractice.  Understanding when a loved one has experienced a catastrophic injury is vitally important.  It can inform your family's choice to hire an experienced Waukegan and Lake County injury attorney to obtain full compensation.

While there is no specific formula for making this determination, the below criteria may be of assistance:

(1)  Was a traumatic brain injury involved?  The effects of a traumatic brain injury can be devastating.  Effects can include an individual's cognition being totally impaired to the point they require constant, daily medical assistance and care-taking.
